If you are going to be needing a stair lift in your home for a limited period I would certainly think renting is the ideal solution.

A stair lift rental isn’t going to cost you as much for a limited period paying monthly as it would if you bought one.

It doesn’t seem to be such a good idea to rent for a long period however because by the time you have had the installation for a lengthy period you could find that you had paid more than the cost of buying outright.

If you could afford to buy there is always the point that if you had bought it you could re-sell it when you no longer needed it.

A stair lift rental option however is quite attractive to many elderly people who will not have the kind of money available that would be needed to buy a stair lift.

Even so with a rental agreement you could be looking at a chunk as a deposit, you could be billed for anywhere between $1,000-$2,000 but this figure is designed to cover installation costs, maintenance and some insurance against breakdowns. It will also cover removing the lift when it is not needed any longer.

After the deposit you will have regular monthly payments of anywhere between $100 and $200 for the actual stair lift rental.

Stair lifts which can be had on rental are generally reconditioned ones which the previous owners no longer need. You are more than likely to be restricted to straight lifts. Firstly because they are cheaper to install and secondly it could well be that there will be many more straight ones available than curved.

The curved ones cost a lot more to make and also to install and it would quite likely be difficult to hope to find a reconditioned one which would fit exactly the curve on your staircase, if in fact your staircase is curved.

The reasons for renting when a stair lift is needed for only a finite period of time. You or one of your family members could have had an accident and perhaps broken their leg. Not a life threatening situation but nevertheless a difficulty which could be overcome with the use of a stair lift.

You may have an elderly relative coming to stay for a while who is either infirm or disabled in some way. Taking on a stair lift rental agreement could be very cost effective and make for much comfort for you and your guest.

As with anything you need to look at many suppliers and compare their terms and any deals which they may be currently offering before you decide.

Geography may be a factor, you might not have too many suppliers near to you, but if you do, take your time and choose the best deal for you.
