![]() Residential Stair LiftsYou may ask how long have these stair lifts been in operation and when were they introduced? This was actually in the 1930’s but, you may be surprised to know that King Henry VIII had the use of the basic idea by having his servants haul his chair on a block in the Whitehall Palace in London. Nothing is really new, is it? However, this product is now in the reach of almost everyone. If you cannot afford to buy you can rent, so they are available to anyone who needs one. It must give great relief to someone who is disabled or just cannot cope with the stairs anymore due to aging, that there are products which can cure this problem so easily – residential stair lifts no less. To be able to just sit down at the bottom of the stairs and by the press of a button be taken to the top would be nothing short of miraculous if you have had to content yourself with living only on one level. Why should you not have the full use of your home, the use of your bedroom so you can rest comfortably in a proper bedroom rather than a downstairs reception room turned into a makeshift bedroom. Being on the same level as the general living areas is not always restful. If you like to retire early and perhaps watch TV or read a book, hearing the rest of the family still about their affairs is not really restful. Safety is always the prime consideration of course. Nothing is more likely to make you very nervous than seeing an aging relative struggling with the stairs. They insist on their independence but you are expecting them to fall at any minute. Residential stair lifts take care of all these problems. Not only whisking the person to the next level but allowing them to feel that they are in charge of their own movements. This is a very important consideration when the person concerned is elderly. Nobody wants to feel they have finally lost their independence so that they cannot put themselves to bed etc. Think of the peace of mind you will get from this installation also. The chair lift will have a remote control so that if you are upstairs and it is downstairs you can call it to you with just the press of a button. Perhaps you need to send something downstairs say laundry or something heavy like that, put the basket on the seat, press the button and it will be taken downstairs for you. This would only work of course if there was someone else in the house to remove the basket at the bottom. Otherwise you could simply hold the laundry on your knee and go down with it. Not every stair lift has a full seat, some just have what is called a ‘perching seat’, a little ledge to literally perch yourself. Some are a standup version, you stand on a platform and there is a rail for you to hold onto while the lift is in motion. For some people,if perhaps they have a great deal of stiffness in their limbs, sitting down is not a comfortable option and they would be much more comfortable standing. This would be the perfect solution and equally safe. |
