If you are facing difficulty negotiating stairs in your home for whatever reason you must be trying to find a solution. Perhaps you think you should move to a single level home. Think instead of installing a handicap stair lift, this is a much cheaper option than moving home and most certainly a lot less stressful.

Why should you have to move out of your home when the only problem perhaps is the stairs. Your disability might not be permanent, perhaps you have just had an injury or had surgery which is making it difficult to climb stairs.

If your condition is permanent then a handicap stair lift would reduce a lot of pressure on your joints. Sometimes even just climbing a couple of stairs, if it is painful, is stressful, not to say dangerous. If you are not steady on your feet then climbing stairs can be a potential dangerous situation.

The installation of the stair lift can make all the difference to you, making it possible to stay in your own home for as long as you wish. You might just be thinking of your independence as well, nobody wants to think that they can’t manage any more.

The good thing about the stair lift is that it doesn’t need to be a permanent addition to your home. Naturally if you are permanently disabled then it will be permanent, but if your mobility is reduced because of an accident or injury then you need to know that the lift can be removed as easily as it was installed.

It is very easy to remove a handicap stair lift, it is fixed to several stair treads, not to the wall as a lot of people think, and to remove it just needs brackets removing from the stairs, quite simple and quick.

These stair lifts will not take up a lot of room on your stairs, they will fold back when not in use, but consider just how much they will contribute to the quality of life for a disabled person.

You need never worry about how you are going to get upstairs perhaps to bed, perhaps you need to take something upstairs and you just cannot face the stairs to take your laundry for instance. With the stair lift it is a piece of cake. Just sit yourself down, press the button and you are on your way, gliding over the self same stairs that previously have caused you so much trouble.

It doesn’t matter what weight you are, there will be a model which will carry up to 500lbs. Plus for the permanently handicapped person there will be a larger size seat with perhaps a seat belt for greater security.
The armrests and foot rest fold up when the lift is not in use. Plus some models have a swivel seat so that when you reach the next level, up or down, you can get out of the seat safely perhaps to get into a wheelchair.

There are things to be considered such as can the person who is going to use the handicapped stair lift hold pressure on a button, can they sit unaided on the seat, can they reach the seat to sit down when it is at the bottom? There are a lot of things to consider but the supplier of these stair lifts would give you all the advice you would need to decide whether or not the lift was the correct option for your home.
