Electric Stair Lifts

There are two general categories of electric stair lifts, namely straight and curved. The straight ones will naturally have a straight rail to run up and down and the footrest will normally be level with the top stair when the lift comes to a halt.

Curved stair lifts naturally are going to be more expensive because they have to be custom made to travel around the curves on a curved staircase. They can also be made to travel onto landings. The price is going to depend largely on the length of the stairway, how many curves it has and how complex these may be.

Also, a curved stair lift could be fixed to either side of the staircase, whichever was suitable. A straight one usually has just one wall side that it could be attached to.

This type of stair lift needs to be seen as a necessity for anyone who cannot climb the stairs in their home. For anyone who can only climb, very slowly, one step at a time, the thought of going upstairs must feel like something to be dreaded.

At one time the only solution was to move into a one story dwelling or at the last resort, a care home. Neither of these options is really a desirable one to most people, and both of these situations can prove to be more expensive than the installation of an electric stair lift.

As the name suggests, these lifts are mostly run using mains electricity and some models have a battery as a backup power supply in case of power cuts.

The fitting of this type of stair lift is very easy and causes the minimum of disruption whilst the work is being carried out. The same goes for removing the lift if this is required at some other time.

It is possible to install one for a limited period for instance if someone in the family is just temporarily incapacitated because of an accident or surgery. The lift could be rented and then returned when no longer needed. As they are simply attached to several stair treads it is a relatively simple procedure to take it off again.

A lot of manufacturers favor using batteries to power the lifts rather than mains electricity these days. The batteries can be powered up between rides and you could expect to get between 6-10 trips between charges.

Battery powered lifts give a much smoother ride and this can be crucial to someone suffering from painful joints where a jumpy start and finish could cause pain.

Whatever the reason for choosing to install electric stair lifts you are going to bless the day you did it and so is the person who needs it.
